Chapter 18

Chapter went over 19th century and how Americans started to move to the Western part of the United States in search of more territiory and other dreams. During this period the continental railroad became very important as it not only accelerated mid-western development but also increased trade and transportation for many people. With the railroads and the gold rush came an enormous increase in immigraition demand for jobs was high. However many immigrants were taken advantage of. The main minorites involved were mexicans and the chinese. For example around 97% of the population of chinese women in San Francisco during this time were forced into working as prostitutes.
